　　　　程宝庆的岳母再次找上门来，为女儿跟了程宝庆而没过上好日子而愤愤不平，同时也埋怨程宝庆给自己的偏方不良，是自己的病情愈演愈烈。岳母越想越气，强行拉扯让女儿程娘子和自己回家，在与疯子拉扯的过程中失手打了疯子，这不但让疯子觉得委屈，好心办了坏事。同时也回忆起了自己被冯狗子打骂的经过，痛苦莫及。　　孙来喜为了讨好恶霸黑旋风，想方设法引诱程疯子出屋，不料在指使大娟子去请程疯子的过程中因意见不合与全家扭打在一起，从而引来了程宝庆院子里的街坊前来劝架。在混乱中，黑旋风指使冯狗子绑走了程宝庆。　　姜仁、李义等为了找到孙新，揪出其背后的共产党，把程疯子抓了起来，严刑拷打，终一无所获。此时，一直在寻找程宝庆的街坊邻居们更是相互奔走相告，渴望能打听到一点疯子的下落。尤其是程娘子，不知是何原因，不知是宝庆离家出走还是被人陷害，因多次寻找未果，情急之下，几近崩溃。后在得知有人看见了程疯子是被人绑走的情况下，向国民政府报案，国民政府不但不予立案，更在拷打程疯子一无所获的情况下，动起了程娘子的主意。决定把程娘子以妨碍公务抓进来，从而逼迫程宝庆签下否认孙新报道真实性的字句。此时的程疯子心里非常痛苦和矛盾，怕对不起孙新，怕连累了程娘子。
