　　长夜漫漫，宣保文无心睡眠，正好赵天明(吴其江 饰)也睡不着，两人聊起了当下时局。红军正被国民党大力围剿，宣保文担心红军已经不剩多少人手了。赵天明否认了宣保文的担忧，红军虽然在国民党的围剿下死伤众多，但依然保存有生力量。次日，赵天明将文采叫到身边，讲述自己的计划。他已经想好了拉拢监狱里面的犯人，所有犯人不可能个个都是铁血汉子，肯定有一部份贪生怕死，因此要一个一个区分犯人，把有血性的犯人拉拢在一起，踢走没有血性的犯人。监狱里面的犯人成百上千，想要把犯人的品行区分出来，何其困难。赵天明心知拉拢血性犯人的工作很坚苦复杂，但他必须按计划做。

　　红军打了几场胜仗，方志敏(刘之冰 饰)人逢喜神精神爽，通知曹直斋上门，表示愿意提笔写字。国民党政府一直期盼方志敏写文章，曹直斋求之不得喜出望外。方志敏委托曹直斋准备文房四宝，曹直斋欢天喜地向顾主任报喜，透露方志敏愿意写文章了。顾主任大喜过望，叮嘱曹直斋好好侍奉方志敏。

　　方志敏其实想写一些批评国民党的文章，曹直斋上门查看进度，方志敏藏好了写了几张纸的文章，谎称自己几日以来没有头绪，写不出一个字。曹直斋没有怀疑方志敏，耐心等待方志敏酝酿文字。

　　苏梅到何雨家里作客，拜访何父，两人畅谈甚欢，苏梅批评了腐败的国民党政府。何父虽然也是国民党员，但他认同苏梅的观点，两人一见如故，他爱才惜才收了苏梅为义女。苏梅认了何父后趁机提出去监狱工作，何父写了一封推荐信送给苏梅，曹直斋接到了上级电话，得知高层安排了一名女子来监狱工作，赶紧吩咐手下接待即将来监狱的女子。

　　监狱为犯人打疫防针，有犯人打了疫防针后身体产生了不适，赵天明忽然意识到了越狱的机会来了，趁机装病。周看守进牢房看望赵天明一行人，监狱里面的犯人虽然患了传染病，但监狱方面不肯出钱为政治犯人治病。赵天明一行人正是政治犯，周看守愿意花钱买药为赵天明几人治病，但他经济不宽裕，只能买少量的药，没能力买大量的药。赵天明为周看守出主意，提议周看守发动所有犯人凑钱买药，到时就能抽出一部份药治政治犯。

　　李铭文去上海出差，与一个朋友在餐馆吃饭喝酒，两人聊起了方志敏，国民党特务黄阿三听得真切，误以为李铭文是方志敏，赶紧打电话向特工通风报信，两名特工赶了过来，给了赏钱给黄阿三，抓捕了李铭文。

　　胡先生再探监狱，看望日子过得悠然自得的方志敏。监狱的犯人患了传染病，死了几个人，胡先生有所耳闻，将监狱的消息转告给了方志敏。方志敏担心赵天明一行人的安危，委托胡先生打探赵天明一行人的情况。
